This town in Upper Bavaria has a wonderful location in the midst of an attractive natural landscape, which offers countless recreational possibilities both in summer and winter. The historic town centre boasts a modern infrastructure, a varied range of restaurants and diverse shopping opportunities. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is famous, among other reasons, as a popular winter sport location and climatic spa town. The surrounding lakes, for example the Kochelsee or the Staffelsee, as well as the royal palaces of King Ludwig II, are attractive destinations for excursions. Those who dare to climb to the golden cross at the peak of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze, will be rewarded with a panorama view of four countries at once. A nearby attraction is the Partnachklamm, a steep canyon along which one can hike, and through which a wild stream flows. The mixture of a lively urban atmosphere and a wide range of leisure and cultural activities, the attractive environment and favourable transport connections – with Innsbruck in Austria only 60 km away – all make Garmisch-Partenkirchen a wonderfully diverse place to live.
